Celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Embassy of India organised an event to celebrate the occasion. The event was held at the Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Addis Ababa and witnessed a large turnout of people. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of India Mr Anurag Srivastava highlighted the significance of the occasion, this being the 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He spoke of the timelessness, universality and continued relevance of Mahatma Gandhi message in today world. Tributes were paid to the great soul by Dr Samuel Zemenfeskidus, Health Bureau Vice Head of the Addis Ababa City Administration and by the senior management of the Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Members of the Indian community also offered their floral tributes to Gandhiji on this occasion.

The Embassy of India has been organising various events and activities as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. The celebrations commenced last year on October 2 with the release of the album Vaishnav Jan sung by popular local artiste Ms Betty G. A Gandhi Heritage walk, tree plantation events, talk series on what Gandhi means to me and outreach to school students to create more awareness about Mahatma Gandhi and his message are some of the events organised to mark these celebrations.
