Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye (PhD), Hon’ble Minister for Women and Social Affairs of Ethiopia was conferred the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Distinguished Alumni Award at a ceremony in New Delhi. In 2021, ICCR had decided to confer 5 dignitaries for this award. Hon’ble Minister Ergogie was the only awardee from Africa. Other awardees were from Bhutan, Cambodia, Spain and Russia. However, the ceremony could not be held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Distinguished Alumni Award is given to ICCR’s alumni who have studied and completed a course in India under ICCR’s massive scholarship programme. The nominees should have made significant achievements in her/his chosen field of endeavor and/or should have made outstanding contribution to the promotion of understanding, goodwill and friendship between India and their country. H.E. Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye had completed her PhD in Anthropology from Andhra University. Hon’ble Minister for Women and Social Affairs held meeting with India’s Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment. She will also meet External Affairs Minister and also with Minister of Women and Child Development. She will visit Andhra University and deliver a public lecture. Every year, ICCR provides about 55 scholarships to Ethiopia. |
