ITEC Day in Addis Ababa (30 Dec 2021)

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day was celebrated in Addis Ababa on 30 Dec 2021. Dr. Berhanemeskel Tena (PhD), President of Kotebe University of Education and Hon’ble Member of Parliament addressed the gathering. Other speakers who shared their experiences of India included Mr. Assegid Mulugeta, a journalist and Convener of Indian Institutes Alumni Association, Dr Terefe Getachew, Dean, College of Natural & Social Science at Addis Ababa Science & Technology University and Mr. Zelalem Girma, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Addis Zemen Daily Newspaper.

India and Ethiopia have a strong development partnership based on mutual understanding and respect, and sense of genuine partnership drawing on the principle of South-South cooperation. This partnership comprises of capacity-building cooperation including short term training programmes at various institutes in India.

ITEC programme was started in Ethiopia in 1969, and ITEC slots have increased over the years reaching 400 (2018-19) and 406 (2019-20). So far, about 3000 Ethiopian nationals have attended capacity building training programmes in India.
