Gandhi Jayanti in Addis Ababa (2 Oct 2021)

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at the Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Addis Ababa. The event began with the singings of one of Gandhi’s favorite bhajans (Vaishnav Jan to Tene Kahiye) and one of Gandhi’s favorite songs (Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram) and ended with floral tributes to Gandhi’s statue. As part of the celebrations, Embassy donated furniture for the nursing room in the hospital. Mohan Group donated face shields, Ponu Monu donated soft drinks and Parle G donated biscuits.

On the occasion of the 21st coronation anniversary (3 Nov 1951), Emperor Haile Selassie laid the corner stone of the first building of the Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The Indian community generously donated for the construction of the first building of the hospital.
