External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar visited Addis Ababa on 22 June 2022 and met Ethiopian President H.E. Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde They discussed bilateral cooperation including education, health and investment as also development partnership. Also, they exchanged perspectives on the regional and international situation. Dr. Jaishankar who also exchanged pleasantries with Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Demeke Mekonnen appreciated their warm sentiment towards India and their good words for our bilateral partnership.

EAM inaugurated the Indian Embassy’s Chancery Building & Residential Complex. He was joined by Ethiopian Minister for Women and Social Affairs H.E. Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye (PhD) and State Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. Amb Tesfaye Yilma. Coincidentally, Ethiopian DPM & FM Mr. Demeke Mekonnen and EAM had inaugurated the Ethiopian Embassy’s new chancery building in New Delhi in February 2021.

Later, EAM and Minister Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye addressed the Indian community. EAM commended the Indian community’s role in education and employment generation in Ethiopia. He thanked them for keeping India’s flag flying high. Dr. Ergogie spoke about our strong bilateral relations, shared her three year experience in India, similarities of culture between Ethiopia & India and encouraged more investments from India. She had fondly recalled her days at Andhra University. Dr. Ergogie was bestowed Indian Council for Cultural Relations’ Distinguished Alumni Award in 2021. In fact, she was the only dignitary from Africa given the Distinguished ICCR Alumni Award in 2021.
